My name is Aggapop “AJ” Nakphong. I’ve worked in Business Development and as Deputy General Manager at Charoen Pokphand Group, Thailand’s largest conglomerate, focusing on partnership development in Beijing and Bangkok. I also served as Hospitality General Manager at Mae Fah Luang Foundation—a foundation started by the Thai royal family to provide alternative livelihoods to former opium-cultivating communities. Additionally, I consulted for Meitu Inc., a popular photo beautifying app in China, working on its US market entry. Currently, I’m a Project Coordinator at the Southeast Asian Development Center, promoting and destigmatizing mental health among Vietnamese, Khmer, Lao, and Thai communities in the Bay Area.
Having worked with marginalized communities, I’m always looking for ways to support them with new technology. With AI becoming so prevalent, I wanted to learn how it could truly benefit the communities I’ve served.
Meeting top AI experts and finding my cofounder, Juan Luis, were the biggest highlights of my time at the institute. The exposure and collaboration at the Institute helped us shape our idea for Equilibrio, an AI-powered EHR platform for developing countries.
During the program, we worked together on building Equilibrio, an AI-powered EHR software solution serving healthcare providers in low-resource settings. Our aim is to bridge gaps in data collection and delivery of care where it’s needed most.
I’m still working with my co-founder, Juan Luis, to launch Equilibrio. We’re refining the platform and laying the groundwork to bring robust health data solutions to the global south.
I’m continuing my work at the Southeast Asian Development Center to promote and destigmatize mental health among Southeast Asian communities. I’m also launching Thai craft beers this March, to add more fun dining options when people enjoy Thai food. On top of that, I regularly meet with Juan Luis to move Equilibrio forward. My vision is to use AI to improve healthcare for underserved populations and expand inclusive innovations across multiple sectors.
